After teaching high school sciences for 18 years (biology, earth science, chemistry, physics, anatomy and physiology), I have been back on the other side of the desk since 2016 studying in the geology program at Loma Linda University. My research interest is the stratigraphy and stromatolites (carbonate deposits produced by cyanobacteria) of the Eocene Green River Formation in SW Wyoming. (My hand is on a stromatolite bed in the image above.)

Observing the soon to be total solar eclipse, Wyoming, August 21, 2017. What an experience!

Totality! (Sorry, that's the best I could do.) Honestly, to my eyes, the actual eclipse looked just like the photos (the cool ones) you see in the news. Spectacular! (Here's a much better pic from Wikimedia Commons.)
